Do you know the origins of Halloween? Halloween or Hallowe’en is a contraction of “All Hallows’ Evening, and it is also known as Allhalloween, All Hallows’ Eve, or All Saints’ Eve celebrated annually on October 31. The usual Halloween activities include trick-or-treating for kids, pumpkin carving, and visiting haunted houses. Normally, kids enjoy the Halloween festivities with trick-or-treating from house to house.
But the best activity for adults is attending a Halloween costume party. This year, the American Institute for English Proficiency with locations in Makati and Quezon City in the Philippines is organizing one of the biggest, most fun Halloween parties in the Philippines. The American Institute is not only an English learning center, but also a cultural melting pot where students and friends who want to improve their confidence through English and communication skills development can enjoy different activities.
According to KM Corpuz, a former student of the American Institute and now a marketing specialist there, she is expecting that this year will be the best Halloween Party ever because they are well prepared with many different activities and prizes. She said that some of the students have plans to have grand Halloween costumes. Students will have a chance to walk down the runway to display their costumes and try to win the best costume of the night as voted by the other students.
Students and their family and friends can come in any costume they prefer, whether they want to be a little sexier or scarier. Popular costumes in the past include witches, zombies, heroes, vampires, and monsters. This year, however, the students are getting more creative as they all want to win the Best Costume prize, which will be awarded to one male and one female.
The party will start with cocktails followed by dinner catered by Kristina Magbuhos, a former student and marketing specialist of the American Institute. After dinner, there will be Halloween games where prizes will be awarded. There will be lots of dancing, socializing, laughing, and meeting new friends.
According to the American Institute co-founder Vin Magbuhos, “the Halloween Party gets better and better every year. This year, we will have performers: singers and dancers as well as games.” According to Vin, the students have been practicing their performances, but it is still a surprise what they will do.
The American Institute students can invite their family and friends, and even their younger loved ones, to try this a one-of-a-kind, once-in-year party.
